Suffield Parks & Recreation ESports is here! Join us for an in-person Super Smash Bros. Tournament on Monday, April 12th at the Suffield Middle School Gym. All Covid protocols will be followed, and participants must wear a mask. If you any issues for registration, please email: recreation@suffieldct.gov for assistance. Prizes for top finishers Bring your full Nintendo Switch setup: console, game, controllers, and downloadable content (DLC). All tournament sets will be a best-of-3 series. The format of the tournament depends on the amount of entries. There is a single or double elimination possibility. Do you want to get in shape, stay motivated and get some spring back in your step?  Are you tired of trying to fit your daily steps in but have excuses of not being able to walk because of lack of time, safety and also not wanting to walk alone? Join our group and make new walking friends and get in shape at the same time.  Did you know you should be walking 10,000 steps a day?  We will go over warming up, fitness walking and have a fun time getting you re-energized for the rest of the day.  We will walk rain or shine so please bring proper gear.  Even if you can only walk for a half hour, you are encouraged to join the group.  Prizes will be awarded to the most dedicated walkers.  All ages and abilities welcome including parents with strollers and seniors.

Inclusive Programming                  These programs foster friendships, socialization, promote community involvement and independence.  This group enjoys educational presentations, fitness activities, crafting classes, games and events that are inclusive.  Many fun outings throughout the year are held.  The programs are geared for  junior high school students through adult.  Enrollment is on a first come first paid basis.  Volunteers are always welcome.  If you wish to join the group and receive notifications of upcoming events, you must pre-register. Currently, there is a Zoom program running each week with games, trivia and bingo nights for the group during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a total body cardio and strength workout. Combining step, HIIT, and dumbbells, this ultimate thirty-minute workout will get and help keep you in shape. Come get your heart pumping and the calories burning with a personal trainer. Beginners to Advanced are welcome!  Please wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement and wear and bring a face mask, water bottle and a Yoga Mat. NOTE: Heavy rain and thunderstorms will cancel the program that day and will be rescheduled if possible. Join in on all the fun and get a great workout in our Barre inspired program. Are you looking for a great program that incorporates Yoga, Pilates and Aerobics in a super fun way? This class is for you! The Barre portion of this class incorporates specific sequencing patterns and isometric movements that target specific muscle groups. This pattern of exercise helps to improve strength, balance, flexibility and posture. The “MIX” portion of this class will add strength training and cardiovascular fitness using dumbbells and other equipment at the studio. Please be sure to wear sneakers. 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM    Babysitter Safety (Ages 11-17) - Babysitter Safety
This course is for youth ages 11 - 17 years with the most common age of 12 - 14 years.  This is an entry level course intended to teach age appropriate skills necessary to care for children of all ages using team babysitting, mother’s helper and individual babysitting concepts. The course focuses on safety with emphasis on prevention. Other topics include hand washing, diapering, bottle feeding, and personal safety and interview skills. Basic first aid and obstructed airway management for a conscious choking adult/child and infant will be covered. First Aid including adult and child CPR (requires passing written and skills testing to receive 2 year certification)Booklet, handouts and Babysitter Safety Certificate of completion included. NOTE:  Bring a bagged lunch and drink. Please bring paper and pencil/pen to class for note taking.

This program is a fusion of the best of Pilates, Yoga, Aerobics, and elements of the strengthening exercises dancers do, Barre delivers a results-driven workout that is not only fun and dynamic, but it will sculpt your body and get you into absolutely amazing shape.  This class will help you see improvements in your posture, flexibility, overall body strength, and balance. This program will help you obtain a body awareness and confidence that you may not have had before all while making new friends.

You will have a blast in this ultimate calorie burning high intensity class. Tabata is a form of HIIT (high-intensity interval training) that alternates between twenty seconds of intense bursts of work and ten seconds of rest in four-minute rounds. This class will have you burning calories even after you leave class. All fitness levels are welcome.  We will be getting a great workout in while social distancing and exercising outside at the beautiful Bruce Park Pavilion. NOTE: Heavy rain and thunderstorms will cancel the program that day and will be rescheduled if possible. Instructor will contact you by 10:00 a.m. the day of the program if the class needs to be rescheduled due to weather.

Is your child looking for a fun way to get fit?  This is the class for him or her. Children will play a variety of games, participate in relay races, challenges and enjoyable team building exercises while also learning about nutrition and making wellness a lifestyle.The class focus is to motivate with positivity and fun activities that help improve balance, coordination and overall fitness. Parent please pick up from the back of the school gym entrance. NOTE: No program on April 12.   
 
3:30 PM - 5:00 PM    Planet Protectors Earth Day Re-cycled and Re-purposed Art Party (Gr. 3-5) - Planet Protectors Earth Day Re-cycled and Re-purposed Art Party
Children will have an enjoyable afternoon while designing original craft creations. We will make a variety of fun Spring Earth Day craft projects and turn recycled items including cards and calendars into beautiful treasures in this fun and creative class. Please have your child bring or wear an old T-shirt/clothes to class. A snack will be provided.  If your child has a food allergy, dietary accommodations will be made so that they will enjoy class too.  NOTE:   Parents, please pick children up from back of the McAlister School Cafeteria entrance, near the playscape.

Do you want to get fit and have fun while making new friends with your child?  Pre-schoolers, young children and their Parent/Caregiver will participate in a variety of fun and interactive activities that help keep your family fit while helping to develop gross motor skills, flexibility and balance with movement and music.  This class is a ton of fun and a great workout too.
 
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM    Spring Fitness Squad (Gr. 3-5) - Spring Fitness Squad
Join our popular clinic designed to accommodate boys and girls in grades 3-5 at various fitness levels.  Children will engage in core, strength and agility training, plyometrics and other training exercises. The class focus is to motivate with positivity and fun activities in a safe non-judgmental environment. Geared towards making fitness a lifestyle. Parents please pick up from the back of the school, gym entrance.

Get an incredible workout in this fun high intensity step class. Class is designed to help build lean muscle while burning tons of fat all while having a blast. It is a total body cardio and strength workout. Combining step, HIIT, and dumbbells, this ultimate thirty-minute workout will get and help keep you in shape. Come get your heart pumping and the calories burning with a personal trainer. Beginners to Advanced are welcome!  Please wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement and wear and bring a face mask, water bottle and a Yoga Mat. NOTE: Heavy rain and thunderstorms will cancel the program that day and will be rescheduled if possible. Instructor will contact you by 10:00 a.m. the day of the program if the class needs to be rescheduled due to weather.

Join our popular clinic designed to accommodate boys and girls in grades 3-5 at various fitness levels.  Children will engage in core, strength and agility training, plyometrics and other training exercises. The class focus is to motivate with positivity and fun activities in a safe non-judgmental environment. Geared towards making fitness a lifestyle. Parents please pick up from the back of the school, gym entrance.

This program uses modified tennis balls, age-appropriate rackets, court sizes, and the latest fun and engaging activities that help players successfully learn and play the game quicker!   All players in their first session receive and keep a new age-appropriate racket, tennis ball, and a program tee shirt!  NOTE: No program on Monday, May 31.Must complete General Participation, Assumption of Risk, Release of Liability Form, below (Links and Forms)

Learn to ride or improve current riding skills under the guidance of an advanced riding instructor.  An approved safety riding helmet will be provided.  Riders must wear jeans or riding pants, shoes with low heels.  No sneakers or work boots with wide treads.

Inclusive Programming                  These programs foster friendships, socialization, promote community involvement and independence.  This group enjoys educational presentations, fitness activities, crafting classes, games and events that are inclusive.  Many fun outings throughout the year are held.  The programs are geared for  junior high school students through adult.  Enrollment is on a first come first paid basis.  Volunteers are always welcome.  If you wish to join the group and receive notifications of upcoming events, you must pre-register. Currently, there is a Zoom program running each week with games, trivia and bingo nights for the group during the COVID-19 pandemic.
